Fall Zoom Sessions 2020

All courses in Fall 2020 are online classes that will be taught via Zoom.  You will get a Zoom invitation once we have your payment and have enough enrollment to run the class.

Description: Using a multi-sensory approach of games, songs, crafts, art and stories, students are immersed in German for an hour of language learning and fun. Class is open to children between the ages of 5-8, with little or no knowledge of the language. This is a multilevel class and all levels will be challenged. We will be using Google Classroom for interactive activities that can be practiced at home and in class, and to keep track of materials, links. Weekly emails are sent to summarize what was learned in class along with links to materials presented in class.

Description: This class is for children that have some prior German knowledge. The class will be structured around the book, using the themes in the book as a basis for learning. The book will be supplemented with materials in the Google Classroom. This class will also be using the Kinder University materials from Goethe-Institute, for STEM subjects.

Description: Building on what you learned in year 1, in this course you will learn how to express yourself adequately in familiar, everyday situations and to read and understand simple texts.
Consolidating and reviewing basic grammar structures, learning to lead discussions, and giving opinions on interesting topics like food, modes of transportation, office life and appointments, health and fitness etc. Speaking, listening, reading and writing will be given equal importance for the German language acquisition.

Description: At this level, students should be able to conduct basic conversations in the German language. Building upon the basic foundations, students will continue to learn grammatical concepts such as verbs with separable prefixes, accusative and dative cases. This class will also do readings outside of the class book and work on vocabulary and reading comprehension. This class will also focus on speaking, both in formal and informal conversations.

Description: History & Culture. This class will learn about the culture and history of the German speaking countries. Students will learn about geography, famous German speaking people, the fall of the wall and other important events, both past and present. Class will be taught in English with frequent reference to German terminology and phrases as well. This is the perfect introduction to the German language and culture for young learners that are interested in history and language learning.

Description: STEM. Here we will learn about German-speaking inventors and scientists and their technology and advancements all while building our vocabulary and communication skills. Students will also be using the Kinder University materials from the Goethe Institute.

Description: Stories and Culture. This class will focus on stories from German speaking countries while building our vocabulary and communication skills. We will read simplified stories from the Brothers Grimm as well as favorite fables. Students will compare the German versions to well known Disney versions.

Description: In this course we will pay special attention to the Grimm's tales. We will read and interpret several well-known tales from the collection of the Brothers Grimm. We will ask - what do they seek to tell us or what ideas and values do they represent and convey. We will also discuss how they are told today for example through Disney movies. Materials/book n/a

Description: This class is the perfect introduction to German in a business setting. Students will learn the basics of the language as well as language that is specific to business. Description: This class challenges learners to use their listening skills as well as using the spoken and written word. The class is structured around various forms of multimedia that give learners the opportunity to learn and listen to everyday language, learning vocabulary and new grammar skills along the way. Description: This class is for learners who have never taken a German class before or for those that feel that they need to restart at the very beginning. The class is structured around communication, and you will learn the basics: introductions, greetings, both formal and informal language, and simple conversation. Though the focus is on language, instruction will include substantial information and discussion about the German -speaking cultures.

classes

All classes must meet the minimum enrollment to run. If we do not meet sufficient enrollment, we may decide to shorten the duration/hours of the class or to cancel the class. It is imperative that you register before class begins in order for us to determine whether we have sufficient enrollment to hold the class. Please help us by signing up as early as possible. We will not hold a class if it does not meet enrollment numbers prior to start date.

A certificate of attendance and achievement can be issued for all classes. If a student needs a specific letter of attendance/achievement for high school, college, this can be written up as well, upon request.

If class is cancelled due to illness or weather, the class will be made up at the end of the session.  In the event of cancellation, you will be notified by phone and/or email.  Please be sure your instructor has a way to reach you during the day.  If you have questions, please call or email your instructor.
